History of Banana Lovers’ Day

Bananas are pretty incredible, we think you’ll have to agree. They’re easily one of the best fruits to add to… well… anything! Need to get a boost to your morning but want to have a shake? No problem! Couple scoops of protein powder, a banana, and some strawberries and suddenly you’re rocking your morning with deliciousness! Have some bananas gone brown on your counter? Nonsense! There’s no such thing as a bad banana, just a banana that’s ready to be baked into banana bread! There’s nothing you can’t do with bananas!
What you may not know is that the whole world is eating ONE kind of banana, and that banana type is not the same thing your great-great-grandparents were eating during WWI or WWII. Banana’s have been one of the biggest examples of monoculture in our history, and something in the past hundred years we had a massive plague hit, wiping out every banana of this strain in existence. So an entirely new banana was introduced and is now the one that is grown everywhere.
But you’re a Banana lover, so yo knew that right? If not, welcome to your first fun fact of Banana Lovers’ Day!

Restore Your Bad Neck Curve With a Simple Towel

Be An Angel Day

Whether it is through the hand that offers you a way back to standing, or the fireman that pulls someone out of a building, we have all experienced someone in our lives whom we can call an angel. Whether it was a minor thing on a bad day that just helps us cope, or a major action that changed our lives, most of us have looked skywards and thanked God for that person’s help. Today is the day to recognize that, during Be An Angel Day.

History of Be An Angel Day

Started to encourage people to do random acts of kindness, Jayne Howard Feldman opened the doors to this celebration in 1993. Since then, it has become an entity in and of itself, helped along in no small part by social media. The movie Pass It Forward is an amazing example of how random acts of kindness can become something more than any one person could ever have hoped. Even now, this day gets more and more recognition every year, more and more are jumping on the bandwagon of random kindness.

How to celebrate Be An Angel Day

This would be the day to put others before yourself. Mow a neighbour’s lawn, maybe watch their kids for a few hours so they can eliminate some of the stress in their lives. Show someone your close to the gratitude and thanks you have for everything they do for you, even if it is just a call, a hug or a thank you note. Write a note to a loved one, fill a random parking meter, volunteer at a soup kitchen. Plant a tree or two, clean up litter at your local park or even give out some flowers to a random stranger.
Donate some clothing or items from your home that you don’t use anymore, or just reach out to someone who needs a little help. Every action we take that helps another can result in many different things occurring, not the least of which are lasting friendships, eternal gratitude and or sometimes just a feeling of contentment of doing something good. While it is true we should all strive to be more kind in our daily lives, and more aware of the plights those around us suffer from, this is the day to really embrace generosity, on this, Be An Angel Day.

You Will Never Be Lazy Again

Senior Citizens Day

After a lifetime of working, raising families, and contributing to the success of this nation in countless other ways, senior citizens deserve to retire with dignity.
Charlie Gonzalez
We are fortunate to live in a time when so many of our elderly are living lives of unexpected health and financial security, but such was not always the case. Throughout history old age was not something an individual expected to reach, and so we lost the wisdom and experience of these individuals at an early age. Senior Citizen Day celebrates the fact that these keepers of wisdom are staying with us longer each year, and in better health.

History of Senior Citizen Day

Let’s discuss life expectancy throughout the ages, starting in the Late Middle Ages. During this time period those who were at the top of the social strata had a life expectancy of 30 years old, 30 years! Could you imagine graduating High School only to have less time remaining on this Earth than you spent in school? That’s how far things have come since those days of old. Even in the 1900’s the age had only increased to 31, but that’s when things really started getting incredible.
ou see, as medical technology advanced, which it has been doing exponentially in the last 100 years, so did life expectancy advance with it. In the 1950’s we saw an average life expectancy of 48 the world over, and then in 2014 it had expanded to 71.5 years, more than double the life expectancy of our medieval counterparts! In fact, in Monaco you find the longest life expectancy of the world, 89.52 years!
This means that we have more and more people living to a ripe old age and able to share their wisdom, stories, and experience with several generations.

How to celebrate Senior Citizen Day

There are organizations that help to support those Senior Citizens who are living on their own, and they accept volunteers to work with them and help out the aging community. You can also stop by local Adult Care Homes to visit those who may have seen their friends and family pass before them. If you have grandparents or other elderly still alive in your family, celebrate Senior Citizen Day by stopping by and telling the how much you appreciate them. Sitting down and listening to the stories they have to tell can give you a unique perspective on the world and yourself.

12 reasons to eat more of this pineapple recipe. Prevent heart attack, increase circulation and others

Pineapple is an annual crop which is of tropical origin. It is one of the foods that pesticides have low impact upon. Such is as a result of its thick peel, so it is a resistant plant. The flesh is yellowish, sweet and tasty with pervasive and inviting flavor or aroma. All through the ages, it has been taken as food and medicine for healing.

Nutritional and medicinal properties

It contains bromelin, an enzyme which acts similarly with pepsin (stomach enzyme that aids the digestion of proteins). Consumption of the fruit accelerates the digestion of proteins because of bromelin. It also contains fruit sugar (fructose), crude fiber, and high content of vitamin C and A. It contains fiber, potassium, phosphorous, and calcium, which are beneficial to the body. Pineapple has great taste
Its molecules are high with a very powerful anticancer component. It helps in elimination of cellulite, works against wrinkles and swellings. It has great impact for weight loss

Reasons on why you should eat more pineapples

Peristaltic movement of the bowl to enhance digestion

The insoluble crude fiber content facilitates peristaltic – turning movement – in the digestive tract. Once this is going on, indigestion or constipation becomes difficult. In fact, if one has constipation, he should drink a glass of pure pineapple juice. Such constipation will be relieved within hours. If the bowl is free, incidence of stomach cancers are low. It is speculated that the fiber and vitamin C are responsible for this.

Pineapple Protects against many types of cancer

It is a good source of antioxidants. Antioxidant fights free radicals. They also, prevent damage to cells. They also help in fighting against many diseases, which include atherosclerosis, heart disease, arthritis, various forms of cancers, and others
.

Weight Loss

It is an appetite suppressant. It has anorectic action. Some weight loss diets contain essentially pineapple product.

Circulatory problems

Pineapple is also believed to improve the blood circulatory system including the maintenance of good health of the blood vessels. The high vitamin C content may be a contributory factor as it is a powerful antioxidant

Soar throat

The juice can be used as a gargle for soar throat.

Urinary tract infection

Regular consumption of pineapple is very good for clearing the urinary tract of all sorts of infections

Pineapple protects against inflammation and infections

Pineapple is rich in vitamin C and bromelain. Bromelain is an enzyme that breaks down proteins. Bromelain also helps in fighting microbial infections.
It also has bechic properties. They help to relive cough once consumed. This may likely be due to the sugars and organic acid present in the pineapple juice. It will effectively have natural cure to cold and stop coughing.

For Bone Strength

It contains high levels of manganese. This strengthens the bones and connective tissue. A glass of pineapple juice is rich of the daily need for this mineral
There are also studies that show, that eating of pineapple is helpful in warding off arthritis.

Keeps the eyes

With ageing, sight weakens. The beta carotene in pineapple is useful for good eye sight, if consumed regularly.

Helps the heart

It helps to lower cholesterol. This is achieved through the soluble crude fibers that bind with fat in gastrointestinal tract or gullet or the digestive tract, including the intestines. Eventually, such cholesterol is eliminated through defecation.
Constant consumption of pineapples will strengthen the heart and protect the heart from many diseases
Digestion of Bromelain is highly enhanced, while Vitamin C and fiber will have a beneficial effect on metabolism

Strong Protection against hypertension

High level of potassium and low amounts of pineapple sodium helps to maintain normal blood pressure. Thus those with high blood pressure should benefit from this food

It works against acne

Pineapple is rich in Vitamin C, thus it eliminates dark spots and gray complexion. It also generates collagen and is very important fighter in the war against acne.

Bedtime Mistakes that are Making You Gain Weight

Weight loss is a funny old process. It takes weeks, months, even years to lose a significant amount of weight for some, yet a few unhealthy meals here and there and the weight that we fought so hard to lose is often put right back on.
Weight loss is stressful, it’s physically and mentally demanding, and it’s a downright pain in the backside sometimes. Despite this however, if you nail it and get it right, it’s actually very rewarding.
If you’re gaining weight and you aren’t sure why, it could be worth looking at your bedtime routine. That’s right, the things you do before you get into bed could potentially be responsible for you piling on the pounds. Here are some bedtime mistakes that are making you gain weight.

Late night snacking

We’ve heard people glamourizing midnight snacks, but in reality, late night snacking is the last thing you should be doing if you want to lose weight, and get a good night’s sleep for that matter. If you eat right before going to sleep, you’re basically going to bed with a full stomach. When you sleep, your metabolism slows down because you’re less active, so you convert fewer calories in the food you consumed, into energy because you need less energy. Rather than wasting what’s left, your body instead takes it and converts it into fat. Eating late could also disrupt your hormonal balance.

Caffeine in the evening

Generally speaking, caffeine is beneficial for fat loss because it increases your energy levels and speeds up the metabolism. If you consume it late at night however, it could have the opposite effect. To begin with, it will disrupt your sleep, and it also contains chlorogenic acid, which promotes weight gain as you sleep. During the day, this polyphenol can promote weight loss, but when you sleep, it’s a different story.

Not getting enough sleep

If you go to bed too late, or get up too early, a lack of sleep could be responsible for weight gain. To begin with, when we sleep our bodies regulate our hormones, including those which promote fat loss. If our hormones are out of whack due to a lack of sleep, this could leave us prone to weight gain.
Another drawback is that when we’re tired our metabolisms slow down so we burn fewer calories, and we have less energy, so exercise becomes harder. Finally, a lack of sleep can also trigger food cravings and emotional eating, so unless you crave steamed cod and broccoli, your diet will likely suffer because of your tiredness.

Not getting enough exercise

Okay, exercise right before bed is a no-go because it can boost endorphins and adrenalin which will cause you to feel awake. Exercising earlier in the day however, will help you to drift off at night. A lack of exercise can be detrimental for weight loss because not only will it be harder to fall asleep, but it will likely also slow down your metabolism, so you burn fewer calories as you rest.

What Meditation Looks Like In Your Brain, According To Experts

You sit down, focus on your breathing, and attempt to get rid of all the stress of the day through a few minutes of meditation — but what really happens in your brain when you're meditating? The answer, experts tell Bustle, is more complex than it might seem. The neuroscience of meditation is a broad and complicated area of research, and scientists are often more interested in the impact of your meditation practice on your brain over the long term.
"If meditation just produces changes when you're meditating, it's like a drug, and it would wear off — and what would be the point of that?" Dr. Richard Davidson, PhD,the William James and Vilas Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and founder of the Center for Healthy Minds, tells Bustle. However, the changes that occur in your brain while you're meditating build up over time to produce remarkable shifts in cognition and brain structure. The meditating brain is a very cool thing.
Your brain on meditation looks very different depending on how long you've been meditating — and, importantly, what kind you're practicing. "When one meditates, these brain changes relate to the stages of practice, and the meditation technique one uses," Dr. Yi-Yuan Tang, PhD, endowed chair in Neuroscience at Texas Tech University, tells Bustle. According to his research published in Nature in 2015, brain activity changes depending on whether you're a full novice, a relatively experienced meditator, or a pro. If you're in the early stage, Dr. Tang says, "the early stage recruits more brain activity because the meditator puts more effort to control their mind." During the middle stage, brain activity is "mixed", but when you become seriously experienced, brain activity drops.
"The advanced stage often involves less activity given that the meditator is skillful and practices with less effort," Dr. Tang says. He notes that blood flow in the brain tends to show the same story: there's more of it when you're still early in your meditation practice, but less as you learn to meditate skillfully.
When you look at a meditating brain, neuroscientists tell Bustle, one of the major things that may stand out to an expert eye is its brain waves. Dr. Michael Posner, PhD, professor emeritus at the Department of Psychology at the University of Oregon, tells Bustle that one of his most novel research findings involves the white matter of the brain. In people who meditate, white matter, which makes up the nerve cells of the brain, alters noticeably in various brain regions, particularly the anterior cingulate cortex, which helps process emotions. "In 2010 we compared two weeks of meditation with a control, and found that these particular pathways were altered," Posner says. The reason, he's now discovered, is down to a particular kind of brainwave: the theta rhythm.
"Meditation training increases a rhythm of the frontal lobe called the theta rhythm. It's about four to eight cycles per second or herz," Dr. Posner tells Bustle. Studies have shown that when you meditate, your frontal lobe produces theta waves of electrical activity, which are associated with relaxed forms of attention. It's these theta waves, Dr. Posner says, that are responsible for building up white matter over time. In the posterior part of the brain, meanwhile, your brain is producing alpha waves, which may help block out distracting stimuli and new information. Interestingly, though, in seasoned meditators, theta brain waves are more common — and not just when they're practicing. "Even when you're not instructed to meditate, we still see increased theta following meditation training," says Dr. Posner.
Neuroscience shows that brain activity alters depending on what kind of meditation you're actually practicing. A lot of scientific studies, Dr. Davidson tells Bustle, have focused on mindfulness meditation, but that's not the only choice — and other kinds can change the brain in different ways. One of the possibilities, he says, is a kind of meditation known as "constructive." In those kinds of meditation, "there is an active process of literally generating a quality in the brain." If you choose to practice a constructive form of meditation like loving kindness meditation, which is about producing benevolent feelings towards yourself and others, your brain will show different activity to other kinds of meditation, he says: "Mindfulness strengthens circuits important for attention, whereas loving kindness meditation strengthens circuits important for positive emotion and empathy."

Learn about Book Lovers Day

From the scent of a rare first edition book found in an old time book collection, to a crisp, fresh book at the local supermarket, the very sight of a book can bring back memories. Reading as a child, enjoying the short stories, the long books and the ability to lose yourself in a story so powerful that at the end your asking yourself where to get the next book in the series. This is for the reader in all of us, the celebration of Book Lovers Day!

History of Book Lovers Day

While the day’s origins may be shrouded in mystery and rumor, the books themselves are not. Started from carving on stone tablets, the book was designed to make portable the writings and drawings of those that could not carry around stone tablets. Originally it was parchment or vellum (calf skin, in case you were wondering)was bound tightly with a wooden cover.
Often the wooden cover was tightly wrapped in leather to prevent the wood from getting wet and had clasps or straps to hold it shut. In the more modern age, printing capabilities made books cheaper, and easier, to print. The printing press, the typewriter, and the computer all had an effect on the market of books.
But more so than most, is the upsurge in electronic devices that can be used to read on. Computers, tablets, and most cell phones now have the ability to read books, making it that much easier to carry around a small library to enjoy not matter where you are.

How to celebrate Book Lovers Day

In order to truly appreciate Book Lovers Day, one must only find a story and read it. Maybe you wish to dive into the unknown with a good mystery, or see magic in a high fantasy setting, or be enthralled in a steamy romance. The individual genre of your reading is not the big piece of this, just that you do read is.
Maybe a visit to your local library is in order? After all public libraries existed even way back in the Middle Ages, but they didn’t really let many folks take books home. The librarians in those days chained books to shelves or desks in order to prevent theft of the carefully hand written tomes.
Many librarians will gladly help you find a title to read, giving a brief explanation on what it is about if they have read it, or giving it a little flip and reading about it quickly in the synopsis. But no matter your preference, if you read it at home with a cup of tea, share a book meeting with friends or go to the library and make use of the wonderful pieces on those shelves, just enjoy your reading, revel in the book and find a way to read during Book Lovers Day!
LEADERS ARE READERS - TRUE OR TRUE
I READ OR LISTEN TO A AUDIO BOOK EVERY DAY - YOU ONLY NEED 10MINS. OR LISTEN WHILE DRIVING OR COOKING OR IN THE GYM!!
